How To Paste Strain Gauge
 

Strain gauge pasting is a fine job requires a lot experience and skills and it will directly decide the precision of load cells. Below are pasting process for reference.
 
1, Pasting process
(1) strain gauge selection → (2) adhesive selection → (3) component grinding → (4) surface cleaning → (5) line drawing → (6) strain gauge cleaning → (7) Strain Gages → (9) Heating Curing → (10) Patch Quality Inspection → (11) Lead Wire Connection → (12) Quality Inspection → (13) Normal Temperature and Temperature Performance Compensation → (14) Quality Inspection → (15) Test → (16) Protective treatment.
 
2Details explanation.
Strain gauge pasting quality depends mainly on: elastomer patch surface sanding, cleaning quality, paste quality, pressure and curing quality. The process is as below.
Elastomer polishing and cleaning
For best results it is recommended to scuff the bonding site or surface by sandblasting or using a 220-400 grit sandpaper.
The bonding site must be scuff in a single direction and should be at a 45degree angle to the pasting direction. After scuffed the bonding site, clean the bonding site with a cotton ball dipped in acetone. Avoid touching the bonding site prior to the pasting the strain gauge. In case, of contact or contamination, clean the bonding site with acetone again.
 
Strain gauge pasting
1. Brush thin and even adhesive to the surface of the specimen and back of the strain gauge.
2. Leave it to dry
3. Use a tweezer to pick up strain gauge and paste. Make sure strain gauge location mark is alignment with the line you drew on load cell surface.
4. Cover it with PTFE film
5. Use your finger to roll along the strain gauge axials, squeeze extra glue and bubbles out of adhesive layer, when it’s done, check the strain gauge again ,if there is any wrong location or substrate damage, bubbles, bumps, etc. Should remove right away and paste again.
 
Clamping curing
The pasted strain gauge is cured 2 times. The first curing step is the most critical and must be done in an oven. .
l  The adhesive will undergo a series of related reactions under heat and pressure. Pressure, temperature and time are key parameters of the quality of paste. Therefore, proper design of pressure fixture is the key points to ensure good quality of load cell. Please strictly follow the instructions for curing adhesive. Do not allow the oven to power off until curing process is complete
 
Follow instruction provided with the adhesive
For example, we use H-610 two-component adhesive in curing process
First curing,
1. Add pressure/weight 0.1 ~ 03mpa,
2. Heat up to 135 ℃, for two hours
3. Cool it down to room temperature
4. Remove pressure/weight.
Second curing,
1. Heat it up to 165 ° C for two hours,
2. Cool it down to room temperature.
